Respect Yourself — Stax Records

Not sure if you caught “Respect Yourself” on ThinkTV 16 last night, but WOW!  I have always loved to listen to Otis Redding, but never really learned about Stax Records — the label that signed him and produced his music.  Completely amazing.  Fans of the Blues Brothers will recognize many of the musicians in this documentary, as a number were in the Blues Brothers Good Old Boys Band, an amazing group that played both country and western…but I digress.  The show was great, and proof that not all TV is junk food for the brain.  The quality of music that was put out by the Stax artists was quite simply as good as it gets.  I never realized that Booker T and the MG’s backed Otis Redding or that Isaac Hayes wrote hits for Sam and Dave.  He also won an Oscar for “Shaft.“  If you happen to come across this show one night, stop flipping, kick back and get your soul music funk on.  Thanks to ThinkTV.

As a matter of fact Yes. We did an acoustic “Dock of the Bay” on occasion. Although, there are few bands we didn’t try to cover at some point in time. I hope we did Otis proud.

Jimmy Quit, Jody Got Married, Should have known we’d never get that far…oh wait that was Bryan Adams’ band.
The band has been on an extended hiatus. The brothers Wade and I are all enjoying marriage, parenthood and professional careers — all of which cut into band practice time. We still keep in touch and remain friends. There have been rumors about a reunion tour, but I would not want to steal the spotlight from Van Halen, so that may need to wait a little while. Plus we have no drummer. (Kyle, if you are out there, we’re putting the band back together. We’re on a mission from God.) Rest assured we still love music and will one day return to the stage — hopefully that will not be at the assisted living facility. Thanks for the interest Mr. DC Were you a fan of the band?

I believe I heard you guys once perform Aerosmith’s “Train Kept A Rolling” As the name indicates, I’m here in our nations capital and stumbled across your website. Great Blog– I must admit when I first started viewing I couldn’t help but to notice you seem a little like Tom Cavanagh from that NBC Show ED. Great blogs though some are a little Dayton centric, I still enjoy them.

Very likely I was in high school at the illustrious Kenton Ridge if you heard us play that one. I get the ED thing a lot — not as much since the show got cancelled, but still every now and then. That guy (Tom Cavanaugh) was on Scrubs too as JD’s brother. He seems like a likable fella. Thanks for visiting the site and triggering some memories from the Rock Star days of Old Springfield.
