From a marketing perspective, can you imagine the positive response and post I would write had they have lowered my rate, even slightly, due to the tough economic times. You can be certain that if they had chosen this path, it would have had a much greater ROI than any television commercial or scam ever could.

There has been a lot of this. Closing accounts, raising rates, shortening payment cycles. Congress passed a bill to changes some rules– like making you pay the higher interest cash advances back first instead of last– but it won’t take effect till 2010.
I suggested a while ago– the number one stimulus would be to cap cc rates to 12 points over prime– if you accept government bailout money (which Citi and BOA both did). I don’t know why you are hiding the name of the company either– screw them.
It’s time for a revolt.
They’ll offer you a write off– where you can pay a chunk less– but get a ding on your credit report. I’ve been writing about this subject for a while.
